There’s a large sample-based music scene in Japan, one foot in hiphop and the other in indie music. One of the masters of this style is Takahiro Takahashi, better known as Halfby. His past work has encompassed everything from hiphop to indie-dance while simultaneously putting the remix spin on artists like Pizzicato Five, Diana Ross, and The Go! Team. For his latest album, he’s reached into 2010′s hottest theme: fuzzed out summer. Halfby songs have always been pretty chipper, but this album is positively breezy with guest appearances by the likes of Broadcast 2000, Skibunny, and tropicalia darlings Is Tropical throughout.
