the consulate general: oh me oh my.

The Consulate General - Sweet Solano
The Consulate General - YWCA Trixie
Boy In Static - Young San Francisco

Oh, you haven’t heard? Boy In Static member Alexander Chen just popped out a full length for his side project, The Consulate General. If that last sentence meant absolutely nothing to you, all you need to know is that you should listen to these songs. And if you like them, then you shoulda put a ring on it… Er, I mean you should check out the entirety of the album when it arrives on April 6.

Though the first track “What Time Is It Now?” has been getting decent exposure, you should be aware that there’s more awesomeness where that come from. Person Number is packed to the brim with indie-pop gems, including delightfully mellow tunes like “On The Run” and “YWCA Trixie”. There’s hardly a “standout”–given how fantastic the album is as a whole–but the song that comes closest is “Sweet Solano”. The arrangement suggests a lazier version of Phil Spector “wall of sound” style, as if the musician’s feelings of abandonment grew too strong to deliver to their fullest extent. Did that make sense? Pretend that it did.
